The Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) will finance, in partnership with the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, up to 23 research projects, with a maximum estimate of 92 scholarships, for  projects in the areas of public security and forensic sciences . Launched this Tuesday, September 1st, the  Public Notice nº 16/2020  has R $ 9,209,200.00 to support the projects. The costs are shared between CAPES, the National Public Security Secretariat (Senasp) and the Federal Police (PF).

Proposals must be submitted through the CAPES Registration System ( Sicapes ) by 5 pm on October 1st. “The technical-scientific training of people to fight crime is a way of strengthening the security of the population, which is a commitment of the federal government. When approaching public security agencies, CAPES makes clear the objective of promoting research that benefits society in their daily lives ”, observes Benedito Aguiar, president of CAPES.

Academic Cooperation Program (PROCAD) in Public Security and Forensic Sciences

Launched in January this year, the  Academic Cooperation Program (PROCAD) in Public Security and Forensic Sciences , aims to strengthen the partnership between higher education institutions and public security and forensic sciences bodies, as well as supporting projects aimed at training qualified human resources and scientific research.

The type of knowledge to be studied and the researcher will be selected by CAPES consultants. The municipality will also, together with the National Public Security Secretariat and the Federal Police, evaluate the results of the studies. Each project will be able to carry out the research in four years, extendable for another year. The initiative is aimed at public, federal and state universities, and private institutions.

For the production of the theses, CAPES will offer the Portal of Periodicals. The virtual library has more than 48 thousand publications. Public security institutions and official criminal expertise units, on the other hand, will allow researchers to have access, for example, to statistical data from the agency and to physical laboratories already used during police activities.
